Kentucky nurses in Indiana Wesleyan's online programs
Kentucky is one of five states, with Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan, where every IWU nurse practitioner disclosure reads "meets", including the June 2024 ASN-to-MSN FNP sheet. KBN runs no approval process for schools from other states, so the task that matters most is finding a preceptor with a Kentucky APRN license.

Every IWU NP disclosure lists Kentucky as meeting requirements
Kentucky sits in IWU's inner circle. IWU's September 2022 disclosure PDFs mark every NP offering they cover (FNP and PMHNP at MSN and certificate level, plus the BSN-to-DNP tracks) as meeting Kentucky's educational requirements. IWU's five-state ASN-to-MSN FNP disclosure from June 2024 agrees, as did the older 2020 BSN-to-DNP versions. IWU also lists the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education among its state approvals and holds written authorization for onsite operations in Kentucky.

Confirm the ASN-to-MSN PMHNP with admissions, since IWU has posted no disclosure for it. The FNP web page's 700-hour figure conflicts with the catalog; your syllabus settles it. See IWU's state licensure disclosures.
KBN's approach to programs from other states
KBN's position is unusually clear. Schools based outside Kentucky are not KBN-approved and don't have to be, even if their only Kentucky footprint is a clinical rotation. The Board's jurisdiction covers prelicensure programs that begin in Kentucky and graduate programs that lead to licensure. It also cites a licensure exemption in KRS 314.101 for visiting nurses completing a Kentucky rotation, available when the school participates in SARA or is licensed through the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. IWU is an NC-SARA member and lists CPE approval.
The Board's supervision rule is the part to plan around. In online MSN and DNP APRN programs, the person guiding you in a Kentucky clinical setting, whether faculty or preceptor, must carry a Kentucky APRN license that is active and unencumbered. A Kentucky RN license is required as well, except for supervisors whose home is a compact state. At the RN-to-BSN level, a Kentucky preceptor for NUR-492 needs Kentucky RN licensure, with the same exception for compact-state residents.
Kentucky preceptors and where students look
AANP rates Kentucky reduced practice. Kentucky NPs who prescribe generally sign two agreements with physicians, covering controlled and non-controlled drugs separately, though the Board can exempt qualifying NPs, and newly licensed NPs face first-year limits on practice settings. IWU approves every preceptor against its NP Clinical Guidelines (see who can precept an IWU student).
Common search starting points include Baptist Health (Kentucky and southern Indiana), St. Elizabeth Healthcare, UK HealthCare, UofL Health and Norton Healthcare. The metros are Louisville (about 1.12 million Kentuckians), Lexington-Fayette, northern Kentucky's share of greater Cincinnati and Bowling Green. They show where the market is, not IWU partnerships.
Licensing, and a short trip to Marion
Kentucky joined the compact's first wave on January 19, 2018, so your Kentucky multistate license, or a multistate license issued by another compact state you call home, clears IWU's licensing bar for Kentucky sites if it stays active and unencumbered. Indiana and Ohio also honor multistate licenses, which helps if your Louisville or Cincinnati-area site sits across the river; that site then follows its own state's rules. Questions IWU students ask
Must IWU get KBN's approval before I train in Kentucky?
No. KBN approves neither out-of-state programs nor their Kentucky clinicals, even when a rotation is the program's only link to the state. The exemption it cites in KRS 314.101 depends on SARA participation or CPE licensure, and IWU belongs to NC-SARA. Your program faculty can answer any site's questions about it.
Does my Kentucky preceptor need a Kentucky APRN license?
Yes, for IWU's online MSN and DNP APRN programs. A preceptor or faculty member supervising you in a Kentucky setting needs Kentucky APRN licensure in good standing, and a Kentucky RN license is also required unless that person lives in a compact state. IWU then applies its own criteria.
Can a Kentucky resident enroll in IWU's ASN-to-MSN FNP?

Possibly. Indiana is a compact state, so a Kentucky multistate license carries there, and Indiana's own rules apply to that site. IWU approves every site and preceptor wherever it sits, so check the idea with your program faculty and read our Indiana guide.
