Message the placement desk
Your program, city and course start date, plus anything we should know. A placement advisor replies with next steps.
What to include in your message
The more specific you are, the faster your placement advisor can start. A strong first message covers:
- Your IWU program, such as the MSN FNP, a PMHNP certificate or the Systems Leadership DNP.
- The code of your next practicum course, for example
PYC-681orPMHN-640, and its start date. - Your city and the states where you hold an active RN license.
- Where things stand now: no preceptor yet, a lead that needs checking, a preceptor who dropped out, or hours you are behind on.
- For FNP students, any encounter category that is running short.
If you are unsure of a course code, your academic advisor or your Brightspace course list will have it. Leave it out and we will work it out together.
What happens after you send it

Other ways to reach us
Every page carries a chat button that reaches the placement desk, and it is the fastest route for one quick question. If you prefer your phone, the WhatsApp and text links on the site open a message to our team with a short note already filled in.

Preceptors, clinics and practices
If you are a clinician willing to precept an IWU student, pick "I'm a preceptor" from the program list, then share your specialty, practice setting and city. Our page on precepting an IWU student explains what IWU asks of preceptors and how faculty stay involved.
Practice managers and clinical education staff can use the same form to ask about hosting IWU students across several courses. Tell us which specialties your clinicians cover and how many students you can host at once, and we will match IWU students to the courses that suit your practice.
Urgent situations
If your course starts within a few weeks, or your preceptor has just left, put that in the opening line of your message and select "Already started, behind on hours" or "Within 8 weeks" as your start timing. We prioritize those requests. Add the course end date too, because it determines how much time is left for approval and hours. See finding a preceptor fast for what to do in parallel while we search.
How we use your details
What you send lets us answer you and set up your placement. Our privacy policy explains what we collect, how the chat and forms work, and how to ask us to delete your information. By sending the form, you agree that we may reply by email, call or text, and replying STOP to any text opts you out.
Questions IWU students ask
How soon will I hear back?
Your placement advisor picks up new requests promptly and usually opens with a question or two about your course and license. If your need is urgent, say so in the first line and choose the closest start timing in the form, so your request is handled first.
Is there a phone number I can call?
The fastest routes are the chat button and the WhatsApp and text links, which reach the placement desk directly. If you would rather talk, request a call when you write, and your placement advisor will phone you at a convenient time.
Can I just ask a question and not start a placement?
Yes. Use the chat or the form's message box for any question about IWU clinicals or our service. Asking commits you to nothing, and your advisor will point you to the right guide if the answer lives in IWU's own materials.
What if I already have a preceptor lead?
Tell us who they are and where they practice. We check the lead against your course's setting and your license state, gather what IWU will need to review, and keep searching in parallel in case the lead stalls. A checked lead can save weeks of back and forth.
Should I contact IWU or you first?
Both have a role. Your program faculty and academic advisor answer questions about your courses, deadlines and IWU's rules. We handle the preceptor search and prepare what IWU reviews. Writing to both in the same week keeps everyone working from the same plan.
