Indiana Wesleyan NP study from Kansas: what KSBN checks and who precepts

IWU's Kansas disclosure status, track by track
NC-SARA membership is what lets IWU enroll you from Kansas. IWU's licensure disclosures, linked from its Student Consumer Information page, answer the licensure question. Its 2022 round, covering master's and certificate FNP and PMHNP study plus both BSN-to-DNP NP tracks, puts Kansas on the "meets" list. The ASN-to-MSN FNP disclosure from June 2024 keeps Kansas under "not yet determined". Confirm your track with IWU admissions before you commit.

How KSBN reviews an out-of-state APRN program
Kansas skips the up-front check. KSBN's position is that an online APRN program based elsewhere needs nothing from the Board before Kansans sign up; scrutiny arrives with your own licensure application after graduation. At that stage the Board confirms national accreditation and a 45-credit minimum, wants 3 credits or more in each of the three advanced cores (pharmacology, health assessment, pathophysiology), and counts role-specialty clinical hours. The hour floor depends on your admission date: 500 hours for anyone admitted before March 1, 2025, and 750 for later admits.
Hold those up against IWU's catalog. The MSN FNP carries 49 credits, PYC-612 Advanced Pharmacology and PYC-614 Advanced Pathophysiology at 4 credits each, PYC-660 Advanced Health Assessment at 6, and 850 practicum hours, with CCNE accreditation; the PMHNP lists 820 hours. Only the Board makes the call, and the lower numbers on IWU's web pages are one more reason to keep your syllabi and clinical logs.
Kansas preceptors, faculty visits and search areas
AANP rates Kansas full practice. KSBN's out-of-state guidance names three things for your preceptor: an orientation, a signed agreement, and a Kansas APRN license matching the role you are training for, citing K.A.R. 60-17-104. It also treats that Kansas license as a condition for supervising APRN students at all, so build your search around Kansas-licensed nurse practitioners. Faculty rules are light: online faculty need no Kansas license, Kansas does not require clinical visits, and faculty who do visit come as guests. IWU's FNP certificate FAQ says faculty visit sites and evaluate students in every clinical course, so let your preceptor know one may happen; IWU faculty site visits explains the routine.

An RN license Kansas recognizes
As an advanced practice student in a Kansas clinical setting, you practice on an RN license Kansas recognizes under K.S.A. 65-1124: a Kansas single-state license or a multistate one. Compact membership took effect in Kansas on July 1, 2019. Either one fulfills IWU's licensing condition for the site, so long as it stays active and unencumbered. Questions IWU students ask
Will Kansas accept an IWU NP degree for APRN licensure?
KSBN decides when you apply, not before. It reviews accreditation, total credits, your advanced pharmacology, health assessment and pathophysiology coursework, and the clinical hours in your specialty. IWU's catalog figures sit above Kansas's minimums, and IWU's 2022 disclosures list Kansas as meeting requirements, but keep every syllabus and signed hour log so the Board has what it needs.
Can a physician precept my IWU clinicals in Kansas?
Plan on a nurse practitioner. Kansas's guidance ties APRN student supervision to a Kansas APRN license held in the student's own role, which a physician does not have. If a physician offers to take you, ask your IWU program faculty before building a rotation around that offer.
Do IWU faculty need a Kansas license to visit my site?
No. Teaching online from Indiana needs no Kansas license under KSBN's guidance, and Kansas leaves clinical visits optional; a professor who does come by attends as a visitor rather than a practicing nurse. Because IWU's FNP courses build in site visits and evaluations, give your preceptor a heads-up.
My Kansas City site is on the Missouri side. Does my license still work?
Your multistate license carries into Missouri, which is also a compact state. The practice climate changes, though: Missouri ties every NP to a physician collaboration for the length of a career, and IWU still has to approve the site and preceptor. Check with faculty that a Missouri site fits your course.
