Florida is one of five states where IWU lists written authorization for onsite operations, and its Board of Nursing concentrates its program approvals on prelicensure schools. For an IWU graduate student in Miami, Tampa, Orlando or Jacksonville, that makes the preceptor search, and IWU's approval of it, the real task.

Florida in IWU's disclosures
IWU participates in NC-SARA, and its Student Consumer Information page names Florida with Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio as states where it holds written authorization for onsite operations. Its September 2022 licensure disclosures find the MSN FNP, MSN PMHNP, NP certificates and BSN-to-DNP NP tracks meet educational requirements in all 50 states, Florida included. The June 2024 ASN-to-MSN FNP disclosure still reads 'not yet determined' for Florida.

Florida's Board and out-of-state graduate programs
The Florida Board of Nursing's approval statute, section 464.019, Florida Statutes, reaches an institution that wants to run a prelicensure nursing program in Florida, and the Board describes its approval role in those terms. Research for this guide turned up no Florida provision obliging an out-of-state RN-BSN, master's or APRN program to apply for Florida approval, or even to tell the Board, before students start clinical hours there.
That leaves the approval that matters most with IWU itself: faculty vet and approve every site and preceptor. Ask them early whether anything Florida-specific applies to your course; clinicals outside Indiana lists what to raise.
IWU requires you to meet every requirement a practicum agency sets before patient contact, so ask a Florida site about its onboarding the day a preceptor says yes, not the week before term.
Preceptors under Florida's protocol rules
AANP rates Florida as restricted practice: some Florida NPs work under a physician protocol agreement for their entire careers, though exemptions exist. Your preceptor may therefore practice under a physician protocol, which is useful context rather than a barrier. IWU's NP Clinical Guidelines set who can precept you.
The four big metros drive most searches. Greater Miami, about 6.4 million people, is home to Baptist Health South Florida; the Tampa Bay metro of roughly 3.4 million, to BayCare Health System; Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford holds near 3 million and Jacksonville about 1.8 million. AdventHealth, a multi-state system headquartered in Florida, HCA Florida Healthcare and UF Health also run Florida hospitals. These are places to ask, not sites reserved for IWU.
Under section 409.91256, AHCA administers the TEACH Funding Program, which reimburses qualifying facilities such as federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics for clinical hours with APRN and nursing students, subject to appropriation. It covers only students in accredited Florida-based programs, so an IWU placement does not count.
Your license for Florida practicum hours
Florida's multistate licensing began January 19, 2018. For IWU the test is simple: your RN license must be active and unencumbered wherever you train, and a Florida multistate license, or a multistate license from your own compact home state, passes it. Must IWU clear anything with Florida's nursing board before I start?
Florida's approval statute targets prelicensure programs operating in the state, and no Florida provision was found that asks out-of-state graduate programs for approval or notice before clinicals. IWU still approves every site and preceptor, so confirm with your faculty that nothing more applies before you start.

Could my Florida clinic be reimbursed under TEACH for hosting me?
No. Florida's TEACH Funding Program pays a qualifying facility only when the student attends an accredited program based in Florida, and IWU is based in Indiana. The program also depends on yearly appropriation. It helps to know this before a community health center asks.
Will my Florida NP preceptor need a physician protocol?
Possibly. Some Florida NPs practice under a physician protocol throughout their careers, while others qualify for exemptions. It does not stop them precepting you, but it shapes how the practice runs. Whether a given NP meets IWU's preceptor criteria is set in IWU's NP Clinical Guidelines.
