Wyoming: written notice, a facility contract, then your IWU clinicals
IWU's 2022 NP disclosures put Wyoming on the meets side, and the state's Board keeps the path for graduate programs short. IWU's NC-SARA membership answers the state's registration condition; what remains is a written notice to the Board for each student training in Wyoming and a signed facility contract before the first shift.

What IWU's paperwork says about Wyoming
Wyoming shows up as meets in each NP disclosure IWU dated September 30, 2022: MSN FNP, MSN PMHNP, the FNP and PMHNP post-master's certificates, and the doctoral BSN-to-DNP route in either specialty. The ASN-to-MSN FNP document of June 2024 is the exception and leaves Wyoming not yet determined. Absent any IWU list of excluded states, IWU admissions is the place to confirm your program.

How Chapter 6 treats a graduate program from outside Wyoming
WSBN runs two tracks for out-of-state schools, and IWU's NP programs travel the lighter one. The entry ticket is either NC-SARA approval or registration with Wyoming's Department of Education; IWU holds the first. Beyond that, the Board's education page says programs above the pre-licensure level (it names APRN, DNP, MSN and RN-to-BSN) are exempt from approval but still owe the Board a letter each time one of their students is headed for a Wyoming clinical learning experience. One more item comes before your first shift: IWU and the facility sign a written contract, and IWU holds a copy the Board can see. Neither task is yours, yet both take time, so tell your program faculty about a Wyoming site early. The heavier permission route, with license documents for faculty and preceptors, belongs to pre-licensure schools. Clinicals outside Indiana compares other states.

Independent NPs and an APRN Compact state
AANP rates Wyoming full practice, so NPs there practice and prescribe with no physician oversight required, and a seasoned independent NP can make an excellent preceptor. IWU still reviews each preceptor under its NP Clinical Guidelines before approving the site; preceptor requirements lists what to gather.
Wyoming has also written the APRN Compact into Title 33, Chapter 21, Article 3 of its statutes. Only five states have enacted it, short of the seven it needs to operate, so NP licenses in Wyoming remain state-issued for the time being.
Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette and the miles between
Wyoming's population centers are small. Roughly 103,000 people live in metro Cheyenne and 81,000 in metro Casper, and Gillette's micropolitan area adds some 48,000. Sheridan Memorial Hospital, Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, Campbell County Health in Gillette, Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper and Cheyenne Regional Medical Center are among the facilities NP students look toward. RN licensing for Wyoming clinicals
IWU expects an active, unencumbered RN license in every state that hosts one of your practicum sites. Wyoming's multistate licensing dates from January 19, 2018, its NLC implementation, so a Wyoming multistate license works, as does a multistate license from another compact state that is your primary residence. Questions IWU students ask
Is Wyoming Board approval of IWU required before my clinicals?
Approval, no; notice, yes. Chapter 6 lets post-licensure programs such as IWU's APRN, MSN and DNP tracks skip Board approval as long as they are NC-SARA approved or registered with the state's Department of Education, which IWU satisfies through NC-SARA. IWU then writes to the Board before your Wyoming clinical experience begins.
Who handles the letter to WSBN, me or IWU?
IWU does. The letter is a program obligation, and WSBN publishes a model version for schools to adapt. The facility contract is also signed at program level, with a copy kept for the Board. Your part is to hand program faculty complete site details early enough for both to be finished before your start date.
Can I use my Wyoming workplace as my clinical site?
It can work if IWU's conditions for workplace sites are met and IWU approves the site and preceptor. Wyoming adds its program-level steps: the Board notice and a written contract between IWU and the facility. Mention your employer to program faculty early, since the contract comes before any clinical hours.
Will Wyoming's APRN Compact help me once I graduate?
Only once it is running. The compact is in Wyoming statute, but it activates after a seventh state enacts it, and five had by 2026. For now a Wyoming APRN license authorizes practice in Wyoming only, with every other state requiring a separate application.
