Nebraska nurses in Indiana Wesleyan's NP programs: clinical rules and preceptors
Nebraska is a straightforward state for an IWU nurse practitioner student. IWU's September 2022 disclosures show its NP programs meeting Nebraska's educational requirements, the Board of Nursing leaves post-licensure programs unregulated, and a compact license covers sites on both sides of the Iowa line around Omaha.

Program by program: IWU's Nebraska disclosures
Indiana Wesleyan belongs to NC-SARA. Its licensure disclosures dated September 30, 2022 count Nebraska among the 50 states where IWU's six NP programs of that date, two MSN tracks, two post-master's certificates and two BSN-to-DNP tracks, meet educational requirements. The June 2024 ASN-to-MSN FNP disclosure is narrower and shows Nebraska as "not yet determined". Check your exact program with IWU admissions before you apply.

Why Nebraska adds no filing for graduate clinicals
Nebraska's Board of Nursing sits inside the DHHS Licensure Unit. It approves NCLEX-track programs that enroll Nebraskans and asks any such program teaching in the state to get in touch. It does not regulate post-licensure education at all, whatever the delivery format, so an IWU MSN, certificate or DNP clinical in Nebraska carries no Board filing.
Two DHHS positions still matter. It treats the student's physical location as the place nursing practice occurs, in line with NCSBN guidance, and it expects faculty teaching APRN students in Nebraska to hold Nebraska APRN licensure. Raise that with your IWU program faculty before your first practicum course.
The 2,000-hour transition and your preceptor
AANP calls Nebraska full practice, but only after a transition: newly licensed NPs log 2,000 hours with a supervising provider first. A preceptor still inside that window practices under supervision, which is worth noting when you describe the practice to IWU.
For RN-level and graduate schools, DHHS lets each program define who may serve as a preceptor. At IWU that definition sits in the NP Clinical Guidelines, and IWU vets and approves every preceptor and site; see IWU preceptor requirements for what to gather first. DHHS rosters since July 2026 also seat APRN members on the Board of Nursing itself, with no separate APRN board listed.
Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island: where searches start
Most Nebraska NP students start around Omaha, whose metro holds roughly 887,000 Nebraska residents, then Lincoln (about 352,000) and Grand Island (about 78,000). The systems you will run into include Children's Nebraska, Bryan Health, CHI Health, Nebraska Medicine and Nebraska Methodist Health System. They show where care is concentrated, not where an IWU student is sure to land.
Match the setting to the course. PMHNP students need a psychiatric practice that can carry a 175-hour course such as PMHN-630; FNP students need enough children on the schedule to reach IWU's 150 pediatric encounters, which often points to family practices outside the two big metros.
Compact licensing across the Nebraska and Iowa line
IWU asks for an active, unencumbered RN license in each state where you train. Both Nebraska and Iowa have issued multistate licenses since January 19, 2018, so a Nebraska multistate license works for a practice across the river in Iowa as well as at home. Questions IWU students ask
Does Nebraska make IWU register before I do NP clinicals there?
DHHS says the Board of Nursing regulates pre-licensure programs, not post-licensure ones, whether they are delivered online or another way. That puts IWU's MSN, certificate and DNP clinicals outside any Board filing. IWU's own process still applies: it vets and approves your site and preceptor, and IWU's recent catalogs have those approvals entered in Medatrax.
Can a newly certified Nebraska NP precept me?
Possibly, but check first. Nebraska NPs spend their first 2,000 practice hours with a supervising provider, so a recent graduate may still be in that period. Whether that affects approval is IWU's decision under its NP Clinical Guidelines, which are not public. Ask your program faculty before you ask the preceptor to commit.
I live in Omaha. Can my IWU site be on the Iowa side?
It can, provided your license covers Iowa and IWU approves the site. Both states belong to the compact, so a Nebraska multistate license works in each. IWU's license rule covers every state that hosts a practicum site, and IWU expects clinicals in your own community, which a short cross-river commute fits.
Is Nebraska covered for IWU's ASN-to-MSN FNP?
Not confirmed yet. The June 2024 ASN-to-MSN FNP disclosure lists only Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan as meeting requirements, with Nebraska among the states marked not yet determined. That is different from a refusal. Ask IWU admissions whether anything has changed, and compare the MSN FNP, whose 2022 disclosure lists Nebraska as meeting requirements.
