Indiana Wesleyan NP students in Nevada: license first, then the Board's clinical rules
Nevada sits in the "meets" column of IWU's 2022 licensure disclosures for every NP program they cover, so enrolling from Las Vegas, Reno or Carson City is realistic. Nevada does ask more of distance students than most states: no compact license reaches it, and its Board oversees online programs that teach clinically within the state.

Where Nevada stands in IWU's disclosures
IWU holds NC-SARA membership. Its September 2022 disclosures, covering FNP and PMHNP study at the MSN, certificate and BSN-to-DNP levels, list every state, Nevada included, as meeting educational requirements; the June 2024 ASN-to-MSN FNP disclosure still marks Nevada "not yet determined". Those documents concern licensure after graduation rather than placements, so confirm both with IWU admissions.

NAC 632.703: online programs teaching clinically in Nevada
Nevada casts a wider net than most states. NAC 632.703 asks any nursing program conducting part of its instruction in Nevada to submit a Board report showing accreditation or approval, compliance with the state's chapter 632 statutes and regulations, and yearly school reports. A distance program must hold Board approval before any clinical teaching takes place in the state, and its faculty working there must be licensed in Nevada.
Nothing in that text exempts graduate education. Even so, every out-of-state school on the Board's clinical-only approval list, updated September 1, 2026, is an ADN or BSN program. How the Nevada Board expects precepted clinicals to run

- Faculty direct all of a student's clinical learning.
- Each preceptor is physically present and oversees two students or fewer at once.
- Faculty can be reached by phone during clinical time.
- Preceptors receive an orientation from the program plus written objectives.
Nevada NPs hold full practice authority, so NP-run practices are genuine options. Without a physician-approved protocol, an NP can prescribe Schedule II drugs only after two years, or 2,000 hours, in practice. Las Vegas, Reno and the systems around them
Greater Las Vegas holds about 2.4 million people, against roughly 579,000 around Reno and 59,000 in Carson City. Southern Nevada's largest providers include University Medical Center, The Valley Health System, HCA's Sunrise Health System and Dignity Health's hospitals in Henderson and Las Vegas; in the north, Renown Health leads. Read them as a guide to where NP care clusters, and add independent clinics to your list.
A Nevada RN license comes before your first shift
IWU's catalog makes an active, unencumbered RN license mandatory wherever a practicum site sits, and Nevada belongs to no licensure compact. A Board practice decision adds that caring for patients located in Nevada, including hands-on nursing education, takes a Nevada license. Travel is the other planning item. The FNP residency, PMHNP residency and intensives, and BSN-to-DNP residencies all happen in Marion, Indiana, so build flights from Las Vegas or Reno into your calendar.

Questions IWU students ask
Do I need a Nevada RN license if I already hold a multistate license?
Yes. Nevada is not a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so a multistate license from Arizona, Indiana or any other member state grants no privilege to practice there. The Board's practice decision on patient care covers nursing education with direct patient contact, and IWU's own rule ties your license to the state of each practicum site.
Does IWU need Nevada Board approval before my NP clinicals?
Possibly. Under NAC 632.703, a distance program may not provide clinical instruction in Nevada before the Board approves it, and it carves out no exception for graduate study, while the Board's current list shows only pre-licensure schools. IWU decides how it handles Nevada placements, so ask your program faculty before you secure a site.
Can one Nevada preceptor take me and another student at once?
Two is the ceiling. The Board's practice decision lets a preceptor oversee two students simultaneously at most, and only while present at the site; faculty direct the experience and answer the phone when needed. IWU may set tighter limits in its NP Clinical Guidelines, so check them before agreeing to share a preceptor.
Will a newer Nevada NP be able to show me controlled-substance prescribing?
Maybe not fully. Schedule II prescribing in Nevada requires two years or 2,000 hours of clinical experience unless a physician-approved protocol is in place. For PMHNP students especially, a seasoned preceptor offers broader exposure. IWU approves every preceptor, so describe the practice accurately when you submit it.
