Where each IWU program stands for Idaho
Two kinds of IWU documents matter here. NC-SARA membership is what lets IWU teach you online from Idaho. The professional licensure disclosures on IWU's Student Consumer Information page answer a different question: whether a program prepares you for licensure. The September 2022 versions mark six NP offerings as meeting Idaho's requirements: the MSN FNP and PMHNP, the two matching certificates, and BSN-to-DNP in family or psychiatric practice. The ASN-to-MSN FNP disclosure of June 2024 still reads "not yet determined" for Idaho, and IWU has posted no ASN-to-MSN PMHNP disclosure.

Idaho's preceptor floor and practice climate
Nurse practitioners in Idaho hold full practice authority in AANP's classification, and plenty of them own their clinics. The Board adds a floor for teaching: a preceptor's license has to sit at the student's target level or higher (Education Policy HP-BON-Education 1, spring 2024). An IWU FNP or PMHNP student learns under a nurse practitioner or a physician, not a staff RN. IWU then applies criteria from its NP Clinical Guidelines; ask your program faculty, and see what IWU publishes about preceptors.
The same 2024 policy speaks to faculty too, asking for Idaho RN licensure from anyone teaching nursing courses and Idaho APRN licensure from those responsible for APRN role or population courses. Whether and how that touches an Indiana program is for IWU to settle. Idaho's approval rules (IDAPA 24.34.01.150, Idaho Code 54-1406) concern programs offered in the state; neither has a clause on clinicals arranged by schools based elsewhere, and the Board's web page routes those schools to a DOPL licensing inbox.
Two provisions give your student practice its footing. One is Idaho Code 54-1412, the exemption for students of approved programs performing tasks tied to formal instruction. The other, IDAPA 24.34.01.100.12.a, covers a registered nurse holding an Idaho license or compact privilege who is matriculated in an APRN program with national accreditation: that nurse may function as an APRN where the curriculum makes it integral. CCNE accredits IWU's master's and DNP programs and its post-graduate APRN certificates.
Boise, Coeur d'Alene and the smaller metros
Most options cluster around Boise, a metro of roughly 864,000 people, where students tend to hear about Saint Alphonsus Health System and St. Luke's Health System first. Up north, Kootenai Health anchors Coeur d'Alene. Idaho Falls and Twin Falls each hold fewer than 175,000 residents, so the list of NPs there is shorter and an early start pays off. These systems show where Idaho NP students look; none has a placement arrangement with IWU.
Your compact license covers Idaho clinicals
Idaho has been a working Nurse Licensure Compact state since January 19, 2018. An Idaho multistate license, or one issued by whichever compact state you call home, satisfies IWU's condition that the license stay current and unencumbered in every state where you do practicum work. A single-state license from outside the compact gives no Idaho privilege. The APRN Compact is not yet in effect, which matters after graduation, not during clinicals. Questions IWU students ask
Can an RN I work with in Boise precept my IWU FNP clinicals?
Not under Idaho's 2024 education policy. HP-BON-Education 1 asks that a preceptor's license sit at your target level or higher, so an FNP student needs a nurse practitioner or a physician. IWU then applies its own preceptor criteria and approves every pairing, so check the NP Clinical Guidelines before you ask anyone.
Is my Idaho multistate license enough for IWU clinicals in Idaho?
Yes, as long as it stays active and unencumbered. Idaho is a compact state, and IWU's rule is that you hold a valid RN license, or a compact privilege, wherever your practicum site is. If you also hold licenses elsewhere, IWU expects every one of them to be unencumbered.
Does Idaho make IWU file for approval before I start clinicals there?
Idaho's published rules contain no such step. Its program-approval rules cover schools offering programs inside the state, and the Board's page sends out-of-state schools to DOPL by email for questions. Program-level matters like this sit with IWU, so raise them with your program faculty rather than contacting the Board yourself.
What does IDAPA 24.34.01.100.12.a mean for an NP student?
It allows a registered nurse with an Idaho license or compact privilege, while matriculated in a nationally accredited APRN program, to practice at the APRN level when the work is built into the curriculum. Your supervised IWU clinical work in Idaho rests on it.
